Note: This event is held on a hill that is open to the public, and it is at your own risk! There is a stair adjacent to the hill, so it is generally safer than some other hills where little ones tend to get creamed as they walk up the center of the hill.

Cost is $65 for parent plus $65 for each child. Early registration ends on January 15th. There will be an extra $15 fee after that date.

Come skate with us at the cool outdoor skating rink at Campus Martius in Detroit! FAMILY EVENT – everyone welcome!

Saturday January 7th at 4:00. Skates can be brought or rented on site.

I spoke to the rink assistant manager Kristine and negotiated the Compuware employee rate – $4 per person, including skate rental – for everyone! Also we have free parking in the well lit Compuware visitor ramp immediately next to the rink.

Directions:
Take I-75 South to I-375
Keep far left onto I-375
Exit immediately at the Madison Street Exit (left lane exit)
Take Madison past the first flat lot and turn left on Beaubien St
Drive one block on Beaubien to Gratiot and turn right towards Compuware.
Go straight on Gratiot to Farmer, which cuts between Compuware and the Compuware parking ramp. Turn left on Farmer.
Enter the “Visitor” ramp and park.
The rink is on the other side of the Compuware building.

Bald Mountain Recreation Area has a number of family-friendly trails. We’ll be hiking about 2.1 miles on the White Loop, with the option of hiking further on the Blue Loop. Come enjoy a Fall walk in the woods. Trails are jogging-stroller friendly, and leashed pets are welcome! Don’t forget your camera, we’ll be walking around several scenic undeveloped lakes.

We will be meeting at the White Loop parking area at Predmore Rd and Harmon Rd. We’re meeting at 1:45 SHARP(ish). Please be sure to bring water and snacks for the hike and wear comfortable, sturdy shoes.Parked vehicles should have the new Michigan Recreation Pass. Passes are available at the Secretary of State when your plates are renewed.

NOTES for next year:
Great turnout this year w/over 60 people. We ate 4 bags of apples. The GPS rangers event we had planned fell through due to lack of planning, next year we need to be more organized before hand in terms of how many dads can bring phones with GPS software and what exactly we’ll do. the midway point bench is at trail post 5, we need to announce that we’ll meet there next year for a group shot.

Please register before Monday October 17th so we can arrange for proper staffing at Camp Copneconic. If you are unable to register by this time, you can still register during the week of the 17th, but you will be charged an additional $15 fee.

For the activities, we will be splitting our expedition into two groups: one for 10 and over and the other for less than 10. By doing this we should avoid much of the delay that was common last year. If there are circles that span both these age groups, they can go either way. But keep in mind that some of the activities for the 10+ group have age requirements. Both groups will be doing cool activities like: zip lines, wall climbing, kayaking (weather permitting), crafts, games, rockets and pumpkin carving.

Registration is now open! Please print the registration form, fill it out and bring it with you to the Y when you register. Early registration ends Sunday October 16th, please register early so we can get an accurate count to our hosts at Camp Copneconic.

The Fall Campout will be at Camp Copneconic in Fenton. The address is 10407 North Fenton Road:

Notes for next year:

• We bought 96 rockets and 192 engines this year and used 62 (we have 34 complete kits left over)
• Cost for this year were $834 delivered from http://www.hobbylinc.com
• We also have 20 rockets left from the past two years, some with engines, for a total of 54 rockets
• Engines were 1/2a3-4t. I thought the height on these was fine and the kids didn’t lose any rockets.
• The parachutes were 6″, we had a lot of parachutes fail to open. Bigger chutes might be better here.

When: Sunday October 9th
Time: Meet @ 2:00 pm (Group leaves at 2:15 pm)
Where: Rochester Park (Pine St. Parking Lot)*
This is the parking lot next to the pond and bridge into the park.
Why: It’s a blast! Ride the Paint Creek Trail (former C&N Railroad Bed, now the pristine Paint Creek Trail) from downtown Rochester to Paint Creek Cider Mill. Snarf some doughnuts and cider.
Who: Adventure Guides and the whole family!

*Option for younger riders-leave from the Paint Creek Cider Mill and catch a ride with someone back from the park. That way you only bike one way and not both (roundtrip about 7-8 miles). The ride from the cider mill back to the park follows the creek downstream and has a slight downhill grade, so it’s the easier half of the ride.

Meet by the parking lot at Rochester park in downtown Rochester at 2:00 and bike up to the Paint Creek Cider Mill for some donuts and cider. Usually the cider mill has some entertainment going on for the kids (magician, clown, face painting etc…).
